April 22nd
Hi Parents!
Tonight is the last night of our regular Kids Crossing programming! We have had such an AMAZING year learning and growing alongside your kids! Please note the announcements about Carnival next week (April 29th) and the Majors Bonfire (May 6th, for 5th and 6th graders ONLY).

Lesson Overview

After weeks of learning about who Jesus is, and what He said and did during His life and ministry here on earth, tonight we will be diving into His final command to His disciples. After Jesus rose from the grave (as we celebrated last week), He reminded His disciples of the mission they are to have as they waited for His return. That mission still remains true for us today as modern day disciples of Jesus. While we await for Him to come back and make everything right, we have a responsibility to “make disciples of all nations” (Matt. 28: 19).
Why is that an important command for us, and what does it look like? Bearing in mind all that they have learned about Jesus these past couple months, your kids will be taking a serious look at these questions. Being a follower of Jesus means that we follow Him with our whole lives! Because we believe that He truly is “the way, the truth and the life”, we must be willing to give Him our all, because He has given us something better. This is good news! It is news that should be shared with others! Having new life in Him should compel us to tell everyone around us that they can also have a new and better life in Christ Jesus.

If you got something really wonderful, for free, wouldn’t you want to tell your friends so that they could get it as well? If you suddenly discovered that it was free cone day at Dairy Queen, wouldn’t you want to announce it all over school so that all your friends could have ice cream too?
Similarly, once we have discovered who Jesus is and what He has done for us, it makes sense that we should tell everyone about Him! He gave us the best present ever–way better than ice cream!

Sometimes ‘going out and making disciples’ means going out to our next door neighbor, or to the kid who sits next to us at school. No matter where we are in life, we are all called to make disciples exactly where we are right now. Making disciples means that we are verbally telling others who Jesus is and what He has done, but we are also demonstrating it in our actions. It means we are helping others understand how Jesus is good news to them specifically. Tonight, your 5th and 6th graders will get some biblical training on how they can be disciples of Jesus who make more disciples by sharing Him with those around them.
