Common Questions

How long is an internship?

In general, internships range from 13 to 17 weeks, depending on start and end dates, program requirements from supporting school, and ministry specific schedules.

Hours per week is determined after application; we want to accomadate your schedule as best as possible, while still giving a worthwhile and productive experience.

Additional options and special circumstantial considerations are always available!

Who can apply for an internship?

A Woodlands Church ministry internship is open to those who are between the ages of 18-24, have a high school diploma or equivalent, are a committed follower of Jesus, and support the purpose and priorities of Woodlands Church. College or Vocational School is not required, but an interest in pursuing post-high school education is strongly encouraged.

Is this a paid internship?

This is an unpaid internship. Although you are not compensated, all interns have the opportunity to raise financial support, if they so choose. More information about support raising can be given upon request.

Can I be an intern if I don't know how to make coffee?

A typical picture of an intern – especially an unpaid intern – is someone that is given the ‘grunt work tasks,’ or just told what to do and left alone. That’s not how internships work at Woodlands! We want to intentionally work with you to develop real-world skills, help you learn more about faithfully following Jesus, and leave having accomplished real, valuable, tangible work. Our interns don’t just observe or assist – they develop, learn, and grow.

How do you work to help interns grow?

Devlopment is a key part of our program. Beyond their direct supervisor, each intern has a mentor they will work with to process their experiences. At the end of the program, we work to conduct a 360° review, getting insights from the intern, mentor, coworkers, supervisors and more. Using that information, we seek to provide an actionable growth plan, so an intern leaves our program with experience, insight, and clear growth areas for the future. We want to use this program to help everyone invovled grow!

What does a typical week as an intern look like?

Each intern’s schedule will vary based on the area of ministry, your school required time commitment, and the responsibilities agreed upon as set by program requirements and your ministry supervisor. In general, interns will work at least 10 hours per week with a maximum work week of 28 hours (program specific). Every intern will be expected to attend and participate in weekly All Staff meetings, ministry department specific meetings, and a bi-weekly intern gathering. We also expect interns to attend Sunday morning services.

Can an intern be enrolled in a college or vocational school while being an intern?

Absolutely! We work with your school schedule to provide you the ability to successfully complete both experiences during the semester.

Can I work a different job during my internship?

Yes, however we do want you to receive any credit for school for your time with us, fulfill any program requirements for course-work, and have the energy, time, and ability to focus and make the most of your internship with Woodlands.

Am I required to have my own transportation?
