A Ministry Internship at Woodlands Church is an opportunity for potential and current college students to discover what ministry can look like, see how their education could be used for the Kingdom, and be equipped with both discipleship and practical leadership skills which would transition to any career path they take. 

Whether you are interested in full-time ministry, you want to grow deeper in your relationship with the Lord and with other believers, you want to gain more wisdom and experience in leadership, or you want to explore what a career in ministry could look like, Ministry Internships at Woodlands offers you intentional and specific support in all of these areas. You will gain skills, experience, and leadership development which is needed for whatever and wherever God calls you to!

How long is an internship?

Internships can range from a minimum of 13 weeks to a maximum of 17 weeks, depending on start and end dates, program requirements from supporting school, and ministry specific schedules.  Additional options and special circumstantial considerations available upon request.  

Who can apply for internship?

A Woodlands Church ministry internship is open to those who are between the ages of 18-24, have a high school diploma or equivalent, are a committed follower of Jesus, and support the purpose and priorities of Woodlands Church. College or Vocational School is not required, but an interest in pursuing post-high school education is strongly encouraged.

What does a typical week as an intern look like?

Each intern’s schedule will vary based on the area of ministry, your school required time commitment, and the responsibilities agreed upon as set by program requirements and your ministry supervisor. All interns will work a minimum of 10 hours per week with a maximum work week of 28 hours (program specific). Every intern will be expected to attend and participate in weekly All Staff meetings, ministry department specific meetings, and a bi-weekly intern gathering. We also expect interns to attend Sunday morning services and participate in the morning in some capacity.

Can an intern be enrolled in a college or vocational school while being an intern?

Absolutely! We work with your school schedule to provide you the ability to successfully complete both experiences during the semester.

Is Woodlands Church Accredited?

No, however, the experience, training, and career skills learned during the Ministry Internship Program will be highly beneficial and profitable for any future endeavor. 

Is this a paid internship?

This is an unpaid internship. Although you are not compensated, all interns have the opportunity to raise financial support, if they so choose. More information about support raising can be given upon request.

Can I work a different job during my internship?

Yes, however we do want you to receive any credit for school for your time with us, fulfill any program requirements for course-work, and have the energy, time, and ability to focus and make the most of your internship with Woodlands.

Am I required to have my own transportation?

Yes, transportation to and from work with Woodlands is a requirement and a vehicle will not be provided for you.

Am I required to have my own laptop?

No, each intern will be provided a computer and workstation to use during the duration of the program.

If I apply for an internship with Woodlands does that guarantee me a place?

No, applications are reviewed by an internal team and decisions will be provided to you via email. However, we do not want this to discourage you from applying, as we trust that God has a plan for every person who does choose to apply for an internship with Woodlands!

Am I guaranteed employment after my internship ends?

No, there is no guarantee of employment with Woodlands Church after your internship ends or after you complete school.

What if I want a longer and broader ministry opportunity?

Check out our Ministry Leadership Residency program! Ministry Leadership Residency is a broad, whole-church overview of ministry and engagement. Over the twelve month program, residents will gain experience and knowledge necessary for future ministry leadership – especially pastoral ministry.

Audio and Lighting

TITLE: Audio and Lighting Intern (21-24 hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Tech Arts Ministry

TECH ARTS/AUDIO AND LIGHTING MINISTRY OVERVIEW: The goal of this intern program is to train and equip you to be able to design, support, and execute all aspects of production involved in serving the local church. This includes not only planning and preparing for weekly Sunday services, but also mid-week and off-site activities. This internship will focus on teaching you everything you need to know, from properly wrapping cables, to lighting design, and to advanced audio techniques. We also will equip you with experience in recruiting and training volunteers to serve within the tech arts ministry.

PURPOSE:  To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a specified ministry by utilizing their schooling, experiences, and skill sets to support the Tech Arts Ministry within Woodlands Church. REPORTS TO: Colton Key, Worship Arts Pastor

MINISTRY ASSIGNMENTS:

  • Responsible for ensuring the success of live events by performing the technical aspects related to the event’s production requirements
  • Assist in all aspects of stage operations, including audio and lighting operation
  • Responsible for protecting, maintaining and repair of audio and lighting equipment
  • Assist in the light design for weekly church services, as well as designing and creating new stage design and prop elements as needed. 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in pro audio systems, stage lighting and basic video systems
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Teachable attitude and willingness to learn
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs

TITLE: Care Ministry Intern (10-28 hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Care Ministry

CARE MINISTRY OVERVIEW: Care Ministry at Woodlands Church participates in staff care, congregational care, and community care. Care Ministry walks alongside people to help them find hope and healing in Christ. Care Ministry does not do all of the caring, but makes sure that everyone is cared for by championing a culture of care at Woodlands Church. We provide individual support and group support primarily for adults in the church and community.

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a specified ministry by utilizing their schooling, experiences, and skill sets to support the Care Ministry within Woodlands Church. 

REPORTS TO: Jed Haas, Care Pastor

ADDITIONAL CONTACT: Ministry Internship Program Pastor, Colton Key

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENTS: CARE SPECIFIC 

The Care Ministry Intern will:

      • Attend Care Team meetings once a week.
      • Attend Care Leadership Team meetings once a month.
      • Attend Care events/classes as applicable (stand-alone events, at least one session and/or entire class for GriefShare, DivorceCare, Healing the Wounds of Trauma, etc.)
      • Help with event set-up for Care events.
      • Participate on the Prayer Team and Visitation Team.
      • Go through a care-equipping book with the Care Team.
      • Take minutes during Care meetings.
      • Be involved in reference calls and interviews for Care Volunteer onboarding.
      • Engage in some sort of regular, routine task that pertains to the management and coordination of a comprehensive care ministry.
Connections (hospitality)

TITLE: Connections Ministry Intern (28 Hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Connections Ministry

CONNECTIONS MINISTRY OVERVIEW: The Connections Ministry seeks to help all who come into Woodlands Church to get connected in meaningful ways, moving them from simple introductions to Woodlands to regular involvement in opportunities to come to know Christ, grow in relationship with Him, and serve Him and His Church locally at Woodlands using their God given gifts (Ephesians 2:8-10).

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a specified ministry by utilizing their schooling, experiences, and skill sets to support the Connections Ministry within Woodlands Church. 

REPORTS TO: Doug Schneider, Pastor of  Outreach & Connections

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENTS: Connections Ministry 

  • Work alongside the Connections Pastor, Admin, and Lay Leader
  • Get to know each of our Connections Ministry leaders, their ministries, their ministry goals & structure.
    • Create a survey of questions to ask them personally through a sit down interview, either during the work week hours, or on a Sunday morning.
    • Compile survey data and use it to compare to existing position descriptions and update position descriptions, highlighting the importance of each position in light of the overall Connections Ministry Purpose.
  • Serve one Sunday in each of the different Connection areas to learn about the ministry, its purpose, and to meet people.
  • Learn, understand, and evaluate the Planning Center Online (PCO) database and workflows for the Connections Ministries
    • Examine Current Connections Workflows for effectiveness, redundancy, and follow up. 
      • Determine bottlenecks in workflows
      • Identify where they are being used most effectively
      • Make recommendations for change and improvement or better implementation of what is working well
    • Specifically identify how the workflows are helping us to personally follow up with people and get them connected in meaningful ways.
    • Specifically identify where they are not being utilized or are simply a waste of time.

Woodlands Kids - EARLY CHILDHOOD

TITLE: Woodlands Kids Early Childhood Intern (~15 hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Kids Ministry

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a Children’s Ministry through the use of schooling,
experiences, and skill sets to support Woodlands Kids Programming. The Woodlands Kids intern works
directly with children, their families, pastoral and administrative staff and volunteers.

REPORTS TO: Keelea Chartrand, Director of Woodlands Kids

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENTS: 

  • The role of the Woodlands Kids Early Childhood Intern is to provide support to the Woodlands Kids Staff team as an integral part of the ministry, while learning skills and gaining experience working within a Children’s Ministry role.
  • Participate in Woodlands Kids Nursery + Preschool programming on Sunday morning-contributing ideas, suggestions, and leading both children and volunteers.
  • Participate in Woodlands Kids Midweek programming, Kids Crossing, by working with 4 year olds + Kindergarten and their leaders.
  • Help support ministry events, as needed, in various capacities as directed by the Woodlands Kids Staff
    Team.
  • Attend Staff Meetings to learn staff communication, policies, and provide thoughts, questions, and
    concerns during the staff meetings.
  • Meet weekly with either the Pastor of Family Ministries or the Director of Woodlands Kids for
    feedback, leadership development planning, and check-in on progress of projects.
  • Teach up front in Large Group regularly in either Sunday morning or Tuesday evening events and
    prepare the teaching throughout the week under the direct supervision of the Director of Woodlands
    Kids or the Pastor of Family Ministries.
Woodlands Kids - Elementary

TITLE: Woodlands Kids Elementary Intern (~20 hours)

TITLE: Outreach Ministry Intern (28 Hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Outreach Ministry

OUTREACH MINISTRY OVERVIEW: The Outreach Ministry seeks to engage our community and the individuals within it in compelling ways in obedience to Christ’s command to love our neighbor as ourselves. We do so by meeting real needs in Christ’s name, utilizing the various gifts that God has equipped His Church with (1 Peter 4:10, Ephesians 2:10).  

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a specified ministry by utilizing their schooling, experiences, and skill sets to support the Outreach Ministry within Woodlands Church. 

REPORTS TO: Doug Schneider, Pastor of  Outreach & Connections

ADDITIONAL CONTACT: Ministry Internship Program Pastor, Colton Key

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENTS: Outreach Ministry 

  • Work alongside the Outreach Pastor, and Specific Outreach Ministry Leaders
  • Get to know each of our Outreach Ministry leaders, their ministries, their ministry goals & structure.
    • Create a survey of questions to ask them personally through a sit down interview, either during the work week hours, or on a Sunday morning.

    • Participate for as a member of a TAH Committee either, Development, Whole Care, Marketing or other.

Video Production

TITLE: Video Production Intern (20-28 Hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Tech Arts Ministry

TECH ARTS/VIDEO PRODUCTIONS MINISTRY OVERVIEW: The Tech Arts Ministry at Woodlands Church orchestrates every technological facet of the Sunday morning service, as well as special events, and extends its services to many other ministries in the church. Video Productions is a part of the Tech Arts Ministry. Our primary aim is to produce pre-made videos as well as facilitating live video productions for events that require it. To do this we focus on nurturing, equipping, and empowering volunteers endowed with the skills required for video production. 

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a specified ministry by utilizing their schooling, experiences, and skill sets to support the Video Productions Ministry within Woodlands Church. 

REPORTS TO: Colton Key, Worship Arts Pastor

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENTS: VIDEO PRODUCTION SPECIFIC 

  • Work alongside the Director of Video productions in creating engaging services with the tools available to us
  • Produce professional and engaging videos for ministries as specified by staff
  • Learn, serve in, and help improve process and training for Live video production roles on Sundays
  • Attend Production Team Meetings on Tuesdays
  • Attend Tech run-thru meetings on Thursdays
  • Attend Thursday night rehearsals for Band, Vocal, Video, Sound or Lighting needs

Woodlands Youth

TITLE: Woodlands Youth Intern (20-28 Hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Woodlands Youth

WOODLANDS YOUTH MINISTRY OVERVIEW: Woodlands Youth invests in the lives of students in 7th-12th grade by providing midweek programming between September and May, along with occasional retreats and summer mission trips. Our goal is to help students faithfully follow Jesus by providing an age-appropriate, Christ-centered community where they can learn and grow with their peers.

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a specified ministry by utilizing their schooling, experiences, and skill sets to support Woodlands Youth within Woodlands Church. 

REPORTS TO: Justin Armstrong, Youth Pastor

ADDITIONAL CONTACT: Ministry Internship Program Pastor, Colton Key

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENTS: WOODLANDS YOUTH SPECIFIC 

  • Work alongside the Youth team to plan and execute weekly Wednesday services for students.
  • Attend all staff meetings on Tuesdays.
  • Attend programming and event youth meetings on Tuesdays.
  • Attend event debrief meetings on Thursdays.
  • Attend Wednesday night Youth Group each week.
  • Help the Youth team set up and clean up Wednesday nights.
  • Help pastor/shepherd volunteers and students when needed.
  • Teach 50-200 students 1-2 times.
  • Regularly lead small groups of students in discussion.
  • Regularly plan, prep, and lead games for 50-200 students on Wednesday nights.
  • Occasionally participate in other Youth programming, such as retreats, Bible studies, or Woodlands Kids programming.
  • Any other areas of responsibility assigned by the interns schooling requirements.
Worship Arts

TITLE: Worship Arts Intern (21-28 hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Worship Arts Ministry 

WORSHIP ARTS MINISTRY OVERVIEW: The Worship Arts Ministry at Woodlands Church orchestrates every facet of the Sunday morning worship encounter within the auditorium, as well as special events, and occasionally extends its services to the Student Ministry and Kids Ministry. Our primary aim is to nurture, equip, and empower volunteers endowed with the talent for worship leadership, enabling them to effectively guide others through their unique gifts.

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a specified ministry by utilizing their schooling, experiences, and skill sets to support the Worship Arts Ministry within Woodlands Church. 

REPORTS TO: Colton Key, Worship Arts Pastor

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENTS: WORSHIP ARTS SPECIFIC 

  • Work alongside the Worship Pastor creating engaging service orders through PCO and Multitracks for Production Team Review.
  • Attend Production Team Meetings on Tuesdays.
  • Attend Tech run-thru meetings on Thursdays.
  • Attend Thursday night rehearsals for Band, Vocal, Video, Sound or Lighting needs.
  • Attend Sunday mornings for Band, Vocal, Video, Sound or Lighting needs.
  • Be solely responsible for planning engaging Student Ministry setlists, while also being responsible for team invites in PCO. 
  • On occasion participate in Student Ministry Worship Services as a Worship Leader or Backline Instrumentalist.

Woodlands Kids - EARLY CHILDHOOD

TITLE: Woodlands Kids Early Childhood Intern (~15 hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Kids Ministry

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a Children’s Ministry through the use of schooling,
experiences, and skill sets to support Woodlands Kids Programming. The Woodlands Kids intern works
directly with children, their families, pastoral and administrative staff and volunteers.

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENTS: 

  • The role of the Woodlands Kids Early Childhood Intern is to provide support to the Woodlands Kids Staff team as an integral part of the ministry, while learning skills and gaining experience working within a Children’s Ministry role.
  • Participate in Woodlands Kids Nursery + Preschool programming on Sunday morning-contributing ideas, suggestions, and leading both children and volunteers.
  • Participate in Woodlands Kids Midweek programming, Kids Crossing, by working with 4 year olds + Kindergarten and their leaders.
  • Help support ministry events, as needed, in various capacities as directed by the Woodlands Kids Staff
    Team.
  • Attend Staff Meetings to learn staff communication, policies, and provide thoughts, questions, and
    concerns during the staff meetings.
  • Meet weekly with either the Pastor of Family Ministries or the Director of Woodlands Kids for
    feedback, leadership development planning, and check-in on progress of projects.
  • Teach up front in Large Group regularly in either Sunday morning or Tuesday evening events and
    prepare the teaching throughout the week under the direct supervision of the Director of Woodlands
    Kids or the Pastor of Family Ministries.

Outreach

TITLE: Outreach Ministry Intern (28 Hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Outreach Ministry

OUTREACH MINISTRY OVERVIEW: The Outreach Ministry seeks to engage our community and the individuals within it in compelling ways in obedience to Christ’s command to love our neighbor as ourselves. We do so by meeting real needs in Christ’s name, utilizing the various gifts that God has equipped His Church with (1 Peter 4:10, Ephesians 2:10).  

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a specified ministry by utilizing their schooling, experiences, and skill sets to support the Outreach Ministry within Woodlands Church. 

REPORTS TO: Doug Schneider, Pastor of  Outreach & Connections

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENTS: Outreach Ministry 

  • Work alongside the Outreach Pastor, and Specific Outreach Ministry Leaders
  • Get to know each of our Outreach Ministry leaders, their ministries, their ministry goals & structure.
    • Create a survey of questions to ask them personally through a sit down interview, either during the work week hours, or on a Sunday morning.
    • Compile survey data and use it to compare to existing position descriptions and update position descriptions, highlighting the importance of each position in light of the overall Outreach Ministry Purpose.
  • Serve at least one time with each of the different Outreach Ministries to learn about the ministry, its purpose, and to meet people.
  • Participate and observe in TransAct Hope
    • Tour our TransAct Hope Wellspring Park
    • Sit in on at least one board meeting
    • Participate for as a member of a TAH Committee either, Development, Whole Care, Marketing or other. 
    • Participate in a TAH Bible Study
    • Help out serving at the park with volunteers

Video Production

TITLE: Video Production Intern (20-28 Hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Tech Arts Ministry

TECH ARTS/VIDEO PRODUCTIONS MINISTRY OVERVIEW: The Tech Arts Ministry at Woodlands Church orchestrates every technological facet of the Sunday morning service, as well as special events, and extends its services to many other ministries in the church. Video Productions is a part of the Tech Arts Ministry. Our primary aim is to produce pre-made videos as well as facilitating live video productions for events that require it. To do this we focus on nurturing, equipping, and empowering volunteers endowed with the skills required for video production. 

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a specified ministry by utilizing their schooling, experiences, and skill sets to support the Video Productions Ministry within Woodlands Church. 

REPORTS TO: Colton Key, Worship Arts Pastor

  • Work alongside the Director of Video productions in creating engaging services with the tools available to us
  • Produce professional and engaging videos for ministries as specified by staff
  • Learn, serve in, and help improve process and training for Live video production roles on Sundays

Woodlands Youth

TITLE: Woodlands Youth Intern (20-28 Hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Woodlands Youth

WOODLANDS YOUTH MINISTRY OVERVIEW: Woodlands Youth invests in the lives of students in 7th-12th grade by providing midweek programming between September and May, along with occasional retreats and summer mission trips. Our goal is to help students faithfully follow Jesus by providing an age-appropriate, Christ-centered community where they can learn and grow with their peers.

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a specified ministry by utilizing their schooling, experiences, and skill sets to support Woodlands Youth within Woodlands Church. 

REPORTS TO: Justin Armstrong, Youth Pastor

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENTS: WOODLANDS YOUTH SPECIFIC 

  • Work alongside the Youth team to plan and execute weekly Wednesday services for students.
  • Attend all staff meetings on Tuesdays.
  • Attend programming and event youth meetings on Tuesdays.
  • Attend event debrief meetings on Thursdays.
  • Attend Wednesday night Youth Group each week.
  • Help the Youth team set up and clean up Wednesday nights.
  • Help pastor/shepherd volunteers and students when needed.
  • Teach 50-200 students 1-2 times.
  • Regularly lead small groups of students in discussion.
  • Regularly plan, prep, and lead games for 50-200 students on Wednesday nights.
  • Occasionally participate in other Youth programming, such as retreats, Bible studies, or Woodlands Kids programming.
  • Any other areas of responsibility assigned by the interns schooling requirements.
Worship Arts

TITLE: Worship Arts Intern (21-28 hours)

SPECIFIED AREA: Worship Arts Ministry 

WORSHIP ARTS MINISTRY OVERVIEW: The Worship Arts Ministry at Woodlands Church orchestrates every facet of the Sunday morning worship encounter within the auditorium, as well as special events, and occasionally extends its services to the Student Ministry and Kids Ministry. Our primary aim is to nurture, equip, and empower volunteers endowed with the talent for worship leadership, enabling them to effectively guide others through their unique gifts.

PURPOSE: To learn, grow, and gain insight into working within a specified ministry by utilizing their schooling, experiences, and skill sets to support the Worship Arts Ministry within Woodlands Church. 

REPORTS TO: Colton Key, Worship Arts Pastor

PRIMARY ASSIGNMENTS: WORSHIP ARTS SPECIFIC 

  • Work alongside the Worship Pastor creating engaging service orders through PCO and Multitracks for Production Team Review.
  • Attend Production Team Meetings on Tuesdays.
  • Attend Tech run-thru meetings on Thursdays.
  • Attend Thursday night rehearsals for Band, Vocal, Video, Sound or Lighting needs.
  • Attend Sunday mornings for Band, Vocal, Video, Sound or Lighting needs.
  • Be solely responsible for planning engaging Student Ministry setlists, while also being responsible for team invites in PCO. 
  • On occasion participate in Student Ministry Worship Services as a Worship Leader or Backline Instrumentalist.
