Kids Crossing Parent Information

Hi Parents!

In Kids Crossing this week, we are excited to continue our unit of teaching about God’s love! Throughout God’s Word, we read SO many stories that reveal to us who He is and what He has done for us. Sometimes the stories are happy, sometimes they are scary or sad, and sometimes they don’t always make sense to us. In Kids Crossing this week, the kids will learn to step back and look at God’s Big Story that He shows us throughout all the stories of Scripture.

God's Big Story

Creation: God showed His love by creating man and woman as unique beings made in His image with the capacity to love, think, feel, create as He does (Genesis 1-2). He created them for relationship with Himself, so that they might honor and glorify Him.

Fall: Even when mankind rejected Him and sinned by deciding not to live in relationship with Him or to live in the way that He designed for their own good and His glory (Genesis 3), God showed His love by reaching out to them again and again. He sent them mediators and messengers, such as priests, judges, kings, and prophets, who told God’s people who He is and called them to repent and live in relationship with Him (2 Chronicles 7:14).

Redemption: Even as mankind continued to reject Him, God showed His love for us by sending His Son to take all the punishment for our sin on Himself by dying on the cross (Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:10). Through Jesus’ death, He wiped away the stain of mankind’s rebellion against God’s plan once and for all, and made a way for them to live in relationship with Him forever (Colossians 1:19-20).

Restoration: By dying on the cross, and rising again on the third day, Jesus defeated death! Though we live in a broken world that is characterized by suffering and death, God showed His love for us by conquering sin. One day He will return to make all the things right and bring an end to suffering and pain (Romans 8:17, Revelation 21:4).

Coming up this week in Micros, Minis, and Mids, the kids will learn about how God loves best, and how He shows us that love throughout the big story of the Bible. Even though we sin against Him again and again, God had a plan from the beginning to rescue us through His Son Jesus! Ask your kid what each part of God’s story means (Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration) and talk about how God shows us His love through His story.

In Majors this week, the 5th and 6th graders will be discussing the tension between encouraging one another to obey God’s commands, while still showing each other love and forgiveness when we mess up. Because we are all sinful, none of us always obeys God perfectly. Yet sometimes, we find it easier to point out and judge other people’s shortcomings than to look at our own lives and realize our own sin. Remembering God’s love for US when WE fail, can help us show love and forgiveness towards others.
