Reading:
Isaiah 7-9, Psalm 106, 1 Thessalonians 4
Prayer:
- “…you yourselves are taught by God to love one another” (v. 9). The Gospel Transformation Study Bible gives some insight to consider and ponder for a while, “Paul’s constant encouragement to believers is to live in accordance with our new, grace-given identity – to be what we are in Christ. This is why Paul in his instructions to the Thessalonians is careful to reiterate that all of his asking and urging and instructing is established on the fact that we have been taught by God (4:9), in and through the Lord Jesus (v.1-2), who gives his Holy Spirit (v.8). The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each take part in our justification (enabling us to be declared righteous) and in our sanctification (enabling us to live righteously). … (Phil 1:6) Simply put, God finishes what he starts. He begins his good work in us by the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ through the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. That same power creates in us the faith by which we are declared righteous (i.e.justification) and by which he enables us to live more consistently with our righteous status (i.e. sanctification) by the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 1:16-17; 5:1-5). This sanctification, Paul says to the Thessalonian church, is the will of God.” Sit in this reality for a bit. When you wonder what the will of God is in your life, rest in this glorious truth. Then give him thanks and praise.
- Labor Day ushers us fully into the fall season of ministry. One of our heartbeats at Woodlands is to see people transformed into the image of Christ in the context of community. This fall we have many opportunities for people to connect into community and grow in their love of, obedience to, and trust in Jesus. Pray for the final details to come together and for many to respond to the call to connect into transformational community this year!
- Please pray for Neil and Sue as they, too, enter into a new season of life and ministry. Pray for refreshment in this season and for a deep passion to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.*
