Reading:

Isaiah 43-45, Psalm 113, 1 Timothy 6

Prayer:

  • What caught your attention in 1 Timothy 6 today?  These three stood out for me:  “Take hold of eternal life” (v.12), “He is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see, to him be honor and eternal power. Amen” (v.15-16), and verses 17-19, “Instruct those who are rich in the present age not to be arrogant or to set their hope on the uncertainty of wealth, but on God, who richly provides us with all things to enjoy. Instruct them to do what is good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and willing to share, storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of what is truly life”.  So basically, the entire second half of 1 Timothy 6. What timing on 1 Timothy 6?  This past weekend we started a mini-series on Christian stewardship and the second half of this chapter is an incredible call to remember who God is, take hold of the life he offers, both here and in eternity.  The promises of God tethered to the truth about who he is – the call to life, that which is truly life. How good is God?!  Take some time today to pray through these implications, wrestle with the message preached this Sunday and ask God to guide your heart to that which is truly life.  Ask him to guide you into action, where he is calling you to action, being both a hearer of his word and a doer of his word.
  • Pray 1 John 2:15-17 for Woodlands students.  Pray that they would not love the world or the things in the world. Pray that their desires would be for the will of God, not the desires of the flesh and eyes or the pride of life, which is passing away.
  • Please pray for John and Kelly as they seek to make disciples of Jesus.*
