Thanks for joining us for Woodlands in Prayer in 2019!

Woodlands in Prayer is a prayer tool designed to provide inspiration and information for prayer.
Below, you will find the following:

  • an inspirational or informational quote on prayer each day. Currently, we’re gleaning wisdom from the book “The Praying Life” by Paul E. Miller,

  • 3-5 key prayer requests for each week,

  • a Scripture each week to help guide you as you pray,

  • and a new missionary family each day to support.

Thanks for using this tool to engage with our Heavenly Father!

INSPIRATION:

We’ve started Part 4: Living in Your Father’s Story. These are excerpts from “A Praying Life” written by Paul E. Miller.

Part 4: Living in Your Father’s Story
Chapter 24: Hope: The End of the Story

Imbedded in the idea of prayer is a richly textured view of the world where all of life is organized around invisible bonds or covenants that knit us together.  Instead of a fixed world, we live in our Father’s world, a world built for divine relationships between people where, because of the Good News, tragedies become comedies and hope is born.

WEEKLY PRAYER PROMPTS:

Each week we will provide 3 -5 different prompts to aid you in praying for the people and ministries of Woodlands Church as well as the people within our community.  This week, pray for the following five prompts:

  • Rest and renewal: Many families, individuals and our students and teachers and District school staff are on spring break this week. Pray for physical, emotional and spiritual rest and renewal and safe travel for the many who are out of the area.

  • Pastoral Retreat: Next Monday (the 25th) our pastoral staff will be spending a half day doing some long range planning and strategizing for future outreach and best ways to engage and reach our community. Pray for guidance and wisdom when they meet, and for the preparation and planning that will be going on this week for the retreat.

  • Bolivia Trip Follow-up:  Pray for our partner church in Bolivia (Sipe Sipe) that it would continue to grow and impact its community.  Pray for the nearly 600 children who are in the Compassion sponsorship program there that they would grow in their faith. Pray for the church to have new vision and means to reach the men of the community who are often resistant.  Pray for Pastor German and his family that they would have endurance and strength as they carry a very heavy load both in the church and with the children.

  • Kingdom Expansion:  Continue to pray for God’s guidance during the design phase of the building process. Pray for good solutions to design the most ministry effective building we can. Continue to pray for God’s financial provision through peoples generous and faithful giving.

  • New Classes: Several new classes and groups are starting up next week.  Pray for God to use these to deepen community in our church, for many to get involved, and for the leaders to be able to teach and lead the groups well.

SCRIPTURE TO PRAY:

Each week we encourage you to use one new Biblical prayer as a guideline to pray for family, friends, small group members, our missionaries, pastors and staff.

The verse for this week is all of Psalm 103 in the ESV translation.

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
    and all that is within me,
    bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
    and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
    who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
    who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good
    so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

The Lord works righteousness
    and justice for all who are oppressed.
He made known his ways to Moses,
    his acts to the people of Israel.
The Lord is merciful and gracious,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always chide,
    nor will he keep his anger forever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
    nor repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
    so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
    so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
As a father shows compassion to his children,
    so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.
For he knows our frame;
    he remembers that we are dust.

As for man, his days are like grass;
    he flourishes like a flower of the field;
for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
    and its place knows it no more.
But the steadfast love of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him,
    and his righteousness to children's children,
to those who keep his covenant
    and remember to do his commandments.
The Lord has established his throne in the heavens,
    and his kingdom rules over all.

Bless the Lord, O you his angels,
    you mighty ones who do his word,
    obeying the voice of his word!
Bless the Lord, all his hosts,
    his ministers, who do his will!
Bless the Lord, all his works,
    in all places of his dominion.
Bless the Lord, O my soul!

MISSIONARY TO SUPPORT:

Each day, we’ll highlight a missionary for whom to be praying.  Remember, several of our missionaries are serving in sensitive areas so we will not always be able to share full names, locations, or their ministry.  If you are interested in learning more about any specific missionaries, please contact Whitney Swenson.

We are going to continue praying for all of our missionaries via the countries they serve in (please realize, we will not be able to identify many of the missionaries by name as we work through this list).

Today we will pray for Sweden and a couple who is serving the Lord there by loving and serving married couples, by teaching and counseling, writing and discipling people to become more Christ-like. They also train, equip and mentor leaders to be able to minister to the needs of people. Let’s pray for this country and this team that labors to make the name of Jesus known, loved, and served in Sweden!
