Thanks for joining us for Woodlands in Prayer in 2019. We hope this tool will provide some fuel for your prayer life. We pray that as you dive deeper into developing a praying life, you will ultimately find yourself following, loving, worshipping, and serving Jesus more and more!
Woodlands in Prayer is prayer tool designed to provide inspiration and information for prayer. In 2019 we will change up this tool every quarter to keep it fresh. This quarter we will include: an inspirational or informational quote on prayer each day from “The Praying Life” by Paul E. Miller, 3-5 key prayer requests for each week, a Scripture each week to help guide you as you pray, and a new missionary family each day to support.
Thanks for giving it a try!
Each day we will try to provide a little inspiration. For the first part of this year, we will be reading through and highlighting quotes from the book “A Praying Life” written by Paul E. Miller. Finally! Let’s dive into “Part 1: Learning to Pray Like a Child”:
From Chapter 3: Become Like A Little Child
“On more than one occasion, Jesus tells his disciples to become like little children. … Jesus wants us to be without pretense when we come to him in prayer.”
Gain some insight into what the author means to “Become Like a Child” by reading from Scripture today! Check out these references: Mark 10:14-15, Mark 9:33-37, Matthew 18:3, Luke 10:17-21. Praise and thank God for these truths. Ask Him to reveal what It means to come to Him as a little child.
Feel free to read along with us, or use the quotes and stories to aid as inspiration for your prayer time.
Weekly Prayer Prompts
Each week we will provide 3 -5 different prompts to aid you in praying for the people and ministries of Woodlands Church as well as the people within our community. This week, pray for the following five prompts:
Group Life Connect: The first few weeks of January are a key time for people to get engaged in groups and classes at Woodlands. Pray that many people would find their way into the group and/or class that will be just what they need to start the New Year.
Guatemala Follow-up: Pray for the churches that we partnered with last week in Guatemala, that they would be able to follow-up effectively with the people that went through the clinic, especially those with critical needs and those who made commitments to Christ. Pray that the churches would be strengthened through this outreach effort.
Building Plans: Continue to pray for guidance for our architect and AV consultants in this critical moth of finalizing building details. Pray also for safety and efficiency as we begin clearing the land this week. Pray for David Hansen as he leads the building committee.
Faith at Work: Pray for the launch of this new men’s ministry this week. That it would effectively help men to live out their faith in the context of their callings.
Aroma Café: Pray for our women’s ministry team as they prepare for one of their biggest events of the year on January 26th. Pray that all the details would come together well, that many women would come, and that the program would deeply minister to women’s needs.
Scripture to Pray:
Each week we encourage you to use one new Biblical prayer as a guideline to pray for family, friends, small group members, our missionaries, pastors and staff. 1 John 5:14-15 tells us He will answer our prayers when we pray the things that are His will. Biblical prayers are most assuredly His will.
Colossians 1:9-11, CSB
For this reason also, since the day we heard this, we haven’t stopped praying for you. We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding, so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, so that you may have great endurance and patience
Missionary to Support:
Each day, we’ll highlight a missionary to be praying for. Remember, several of our missionaries are serving in sensitive areas so we will not always be able to share full names, locations, or their ministry. If you are interested in learning more about any specific missionaries, please contact Whitney Swenson.
Please pray for Zak and Becky Alwin! They are serving with Cru in the Wisconsin Dells. They share the gospel by sharing their lives with the international population that serves in the hospitality business in the Dells. The Alwin’s are facing a budget deficit right now - would you pray for patience and perseverance as they enter a season of support raising. Pray the gospel would continue to be clearly communicated through them and they would find favor in their efforts.
