Woodlands in Prayer Website.png

Woodlands in Prayer is prayer tool designed to provide inspiration and information for prayer.  In 2019 we will change up this tool every quarter to keep it fresh.  This quarter we will include: an inspirational or informational quote on prayer each day from “The Praying Life,” by Paul E. Miller, 3-5 key prayer requests for each week, a Scripture each week to help guide you as you pray, and a new missionary family each day to support.
Thanks for giving it a try!

Each day we will try to provide a little inspiration.  For the first part of this year, we will be reading through and highlighting quotes from the book “A Praying Life” written by Paul E. Miller.  Before we dive into “Part 1: Learning to Pray Like a Child”, we’ll take stock of “Where We Are Headed”:

From Chapter 2:  Where We Are Headed

… we need to know what good prayer looks and feels like in order to develop a praying life.  Knowing where we are headed can help us on the journey.  So… let’s get a clearer picture of what we are aiming for. …

The Praying Life…becomes integrated

The quest for a contemplative life can actually be self-absorbed focused on my quiet and me.  If we love people and have the power to help, then we are going to be busy.  Learning to pray doesn’t offer us a less busy life; it offers us a less busy heart.  In the midst of outer busyness we can develop an inner quiet.  Because we are less hectic on the inside, we have a greater capacity to love… and thus to be busy, which in turn drives us even more into a life of prayer.  By spending time with our Father in prayer, we integrate our lives with his, with what he is doing in us.  Our lives become more coherent.  They feel calmer, more ordered, even in the midst of confusion and pressure.

Feel free to read along with us, or use the quotes and stories to aid as inspiration for your prayer time.

Weekly Prayer Prompts

Each week we will provide 3 -5 different prompts to aid you in praying for the people and ministries of Woodlands Church as well as the people within our community.  This week, pray for the following five prompts:

  • Youth Ministry:  Pray for our students who were at Districts this past week that God would solidify in their hearts and minds the commitments that they made this past weekend at Districts.  Pray for our staff and volunteer leadership teams that they would be able to have fruitful follow-up conversations with the students.

  • Guatemala Medical Missions team: Our team of 47 is partnering with 25 churches this week for four days of medical clinic.  They will see over 1000 patients.  Pray that they would help them effectively in the name of Jesus. Pray that the churches would be able to share the gospel with all the patients who come through.  Pray for those on our team, and those from Guatemala we work with who have not yet received Christ that their hearts would be open to the gospel.  Pray for team health and stamina. (Follow the team on their blog here.)

  • Building Plans:  Pray that God would guide the architect and our AV consultant as they finalize some key elements this month of the building design.

  • Families: Pray for spiritual, emotional, and physical health for the families of Woodlands as we head into the New Year.  January can be a tough month for many families for lots of reasons.  Pray for God’s grace to be poured out.

  • Spiritual Growth Plans:  Pray that people would establish good patterns of reading God’s word, seeking Him in prayer, and other spiritual inputs and outputs that He leads them to, as the New Year begins.

Scripture to Pray:

Each week we encourage you to use one new Biblical prayer as a guideline to pray for family, friends, small group members, our missionaries, pastors and staff.  1 John 5:14-15 tells us He will answer our prayers when we pray the things that are His will. Biblical prayers are most assuredly His will.

Matthew 6:9-13, ESV

Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
    but deliver us from evil.

Missionary to Support:

Each day, we’ll highlight a missionary to be praying for.  Remember, several of our missionaries are serving in sensitive areas so we will not always be able to share full names, locations, or their ministry.  If you are interested in learning more about any specific missionaries, please contact Whitney Swenson.

Please pray for Bala and Carol - serving in another sensitive area, they support national church planters as they share the gospel and plant churches. Work is arduous and they meet many obstacles - pray for perseverance and patience, and that God would use them to make disciples!
