HOPE HAS COME - 2011 - A Christmas album with a purpose.

Recorded in a brief 2 months, and as a labor of love, all musicians and recording personnel volunteered their time and talents to see the Hope of the Gospel spread through this project.

Christmas is often the time of year that we gather with friends and family in our cozy homes with sumptuous foods and traditions, warmth and merriment.

But is that what the incarnation of the Christ was meant to bring about?

Ironically, Christmas can become the time of year when we lavish ourselves and our loved ones with love and gifts, when the One we celebrate came to give Himself away.

The eternal King of glory veiled Himself – became human -  and was born in the most humble of circumstances. Ultimately He lavished love and gifts of grace, forgiveness and redemption on those far from Him.  And not just people who didn’t know any better.  The Scriptures remind us that we are a rebellious creation, and that we were not only alienated from God, but were in fact enemies of God.  And yet, He came to give all of Himself away.

I’m just as guilty of this mindset as anyone, because frankly it’s easier and it feels good.

This reconsidering of Christmas struck me hard a few years ago when God called our worship ministry to consider singing not only for our church on Christmas Eve, but after those services to go to our local jail and sing familiar Christmas carols with the inmates.  It was a sweet time – though admittedly an uncomfortable one, since many of us had never done jail ministry before and our unfounded fears were begging to be listened to.  But Christ’s coming was not about comfort for Himself, and He doesn’t call His people to lives of comfort in this age.

The “Hope Has Come” album is meant to be about three things:

• celebrating the astounding reality of the Incarnation

• challenging our quaint and often self-indulgent ideas of Christmas

• helping others in a very practical way.
