Despite getting in to Chicago late we are still gonna be back at the church about 1am.

In Philly

Our flight out of Nassau was late and we literally ran for the connection gate, which they moved on us and forgot to mention. Fortunately the connection was late as well. Good news: we we are coming home. Bad news: we will probably be later than expected. We'll let let you know a better timeline when we get to Chicago.

Yesterday was our cultural day and we had a blast. A little island history, a little shopping, some excellent island food and of course a whole lotta beach! The team worked hard this week and it was a well deserved day of enjoying some of Gods best handiwork!

image.jpg

After dinner last night we had our last team time. We talked about our big take-aways from the week and of course how we are going to implement our learnings when we get back. We concluded our final meeting with  worship and communion...So Sweet!!!

We are all packed up and waiting to head to the airport. It's gonna be a long day of travel but hopefully it goes a lil smoother than the ride down! 😄

A rocking Tuesday

image.jpg

Wow, what a day! We powered through a bunch of projects today and our team did great. Trees were felled, sidewalks destroyed (on purpose) and a ceiling full of insulation finished off. The team was full of energy even though they worked hard yesterday. The team also spent precious time with the residents of All Saints during our lunch time. A lot of work got done, a lot of eyes were opened and I couldn't be prouder of what our team did the past two days.

Tonight we we rallied all the energy we could and went to Grace Community for AWANA and Youth Group. All 3 of our teams did terrific and we were reminded of just how awesome it is to be a part of "the church". Laughing, learning, playing games, telling stories, worshipping...it was a sweet night! It really is to our detriment when we forget just how big the family of God really is! Big props go out to multiple of our kids for sharing their testimonies tonight and leading multiple areas of the ministries. Quite simply...we got fantastic teens...parents, Be Proud!!!

Sunday & Monday

image.jpg

Sunday was a really fun day for our team. The morning was spent at Grace Community Church. We crashed the St High Sunday school class and had a blast. It was full of impromptu skits about Easter events and we even taught them about brats! I'm not so sure they are convinced they need to eat one, but they are educated none the less.

Sunday night we went back to the IANA Missions Conference and were challenged with many stories of the persecuted church around the world. Phil even got called up front as part of the closing of the conference and praying for missionaries. Yep, Phil is pretty much a rock star down here! 😄

Today was a tough day if work. We went to the All Saints camp and worked HARD. A building was torn down, crooning insulation was hung, and tons (literally) of rocks/gravel was moved by hand as fill to prepare for a future cement front porch. But more than all the work that was accomplished a bunch of incredible conversations were had between our team and the residents of All Saints. To see their living conditions and see the hopelessness that seems to be everywhere is heavy on the soul. Yet in spite of these things many residents are brimming with joy, and the only explanation is Jesus in their life! Tonight's team time was full of sobering conversation and gratitude for what we experienced today.

After a long day of work we got to play a little bit...and it was awesome. An hour playing in the ocean makes a tough day a whole lot better!

Homework?!?!

What a day!

Today was a flurry of activity. We started the day with VBS at one of the local Haitian churches. It was full of songs, skits, crafts, teaching, games and of course plenty of snacks! But the real gift  of the day was the Hatian kids. They deeply impacted our team with their level of joy and their willingness to share so much of the so very little they have. Tonight's team time was extremely good as our students tried to process some of the emotion associated with witnessing deep poverty first hand.

After out return to camp we did a bunch of projects for ALC and guess what parents...your kids CAN WORK HARD, but don't tell them you found that out from me. They moved brush, floor tiles, cleaned nastiness from fences, planted cocunut trees (yep, you read that right)  and a bunch of other stuff.

The team has a real love for the game of getting the coconuts down from the tree...it's highly amusing and has proven to have a sweet reward multiple times!
