FLYTE: faith. life. together

Curriculum for 5th and 6th graders

How many times have you said to yourself or someone else, “It’s not fair”? Your preteen is entering a phase of growth in which he or she will be making that kind of statement for a lot of different reasons.

Think of the changes you were going through at that age. Did it seem like some friends always had it better? Someone else had the things you wanted and never had to deal with the challenges you faced. Did you wonder why, no matter how hard you tried, you just couldn’t make things work out for yourself?

During this unit your preteen will be finding out how to deal with these kinds of frustrations through some pretty intensive Bible study. Here’s an outline of what to expect:

Unit Theme – It’s Not Fair!

4/2 – Why can’t I have what they have? (Luke 15:11-32)

4/9 – Why is this happening to me? (1 Samuel 19–20)

4/16 – Easter Sunday

4/23 - Why can’t I do it all? (Exodus 18)

4/30 – Why do people die? (Genesis 3; Romans 6:23; 1 Corinthians 15:20-24)

Our memory passage for this unit will remind preteens that God always has a plan. Encourage your preteen to commit Jeremiah 29:11-12 to memory. Agree to memorize it together!

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
