Flight delayed in ATL

Our flight was delayed about an hour and a half in Atlanta so our return times will be a bit off.  We just boarded the plane right now. Parents...we will call with updated times.

Today was our last full day of ministry. More kickball...you bet! So many wonderful relationships were nurtured between our students and the kids of the elementary school. There were many sad faces from our new friends when they found out today was our last day. We gave a small gift of appreciation to the school principal for allowing us to come and be a part of the school for a few days. She shared with us the significance of our "play" with the kids comes from the fact that most of the kids don't have parents who show them attention or affection. Our simple act of being excited to play with them is bigger than we understand. And when you combine sharing the love and truth of Jesus through the students testimonies given at the end of every period it was an incredible thing to be a part of. But, I don't think any of us will be playing kickball anytime soon! 😄

Our work at Misioneros continued today with more tree painting and food repackaging. Rice bugs, difficult to paint tree bark and tired bodies didn't stop the team from finishing strong.

small group...good times

Tonight we took part in Los Olivos Small Groups. We broke into smaller teams and met in homes for Bible Study. Each group had a different experience but we all walked away glad we were able to participate in the night. Laughs, prayer and Gods Word were shared by brothers and sisters in Christ who happen to live in different countries. A couple groups had folks attend who hadn't previously attended the group, but were visited by one of our teams earlier in the week during Home Visits. To see immediate fruit from something our team participated in was very cool!

Thursday is cultural day and we will head down to Antigua to be tourists for a day. Everyone is looking forward to seeing the beauty of an old city like Antigua, and of course shopping at the market is high on their list as well.

Question: Can you ever play to much kickball? Answer: Not if you are one of the kids at our elementary school. Today we taught the 5th grade classes how to play...and play they did! It was fun to teach the older kids because we got to jump in and play with them. We even had some kids vs. gringo games...much to the delight of the kids.

This afternoon we took 3 whole hours off and everyone got a chance to recharge their depleted batteries. There was reading, napping, chatting, playing and even some homework. We also got a chance to tour the Neurological Clinic here on the Misoneros grounds. It was really cool for the students to see the facility and workers that makes a huge difference to so many lives.

We did more home visits tonight with the Los Olivos youth group and once again they went well. The night finished off with a great team time. The trip is quickly drawing to a close and everyone is committed to finishing strong.  Keep the prayers coming!

Monday was another good and long day. We were back at school teaching kickball to out Elementary School friends and if you were watching from a distance you would have actually been able to tell it was a kickball game...big improvement! 😄

This afternoon we worked at the Children's Home. The girls broke down 50 and 100 pound sacks of food into smaller 5 pound bags that are given to needy families that come to the on-site clinic. The guys continued where the girls left off on Friday painting the bottom of the trees on the property. A special paint is used to prevent bugs from climbing the tree and infesting/killing it. The job sounds easy...but trust me...it's not!

fun game at home visits...Anne saved the day!

Our first round of home visits were tonight and each group had different, but good experiences. This is one of the very "out of our comfort zone" activities and it's cool to see how God uses our students when they are put in a spot to really trust Him!

Everyone is tired and running on fumes...these are the days the whole  "4th place" mentality is put to the test. Keep praying for the team as we push to finish strong.

Parents...be proud of your kids, they are doing amazing!!!

Youth Group went extremely well. Laughing together, playing together and learning together with our Gautemalan friends. Evan and Justina did an incredible job of sharing their testimonies last night.

Today was spent in El Yalu delivering food and clothing bags in the morning and vbs in the afternoon. It was an eye opening experience for the team to see that level of poverty. During vbs our team did part and the Los Olivos team did the other part. It was a great team effort to around 200 precious kids.

1st day is half over

We arrived in Guatemala City without any major problems. Flights were good, all our luggage got through and we reached the Children's Home tired and happy to have a nice bed to sleep in.

The team is super stylie in our chicken bus. Top notch!

This morning we went to the school and ran gym classes for 1st and 2nd graders. We baked in the Guatemala sun and nobody complained a bit. 😄 Suntan lotion isn't something we've thought about for a few months but we certainly will this week. Things are off to a great start...keep the prayers coming.

We are loaded and waiting to push off.

Hurry up and wait...

The team is all the way through security and waiting for the plane. Checking in was way smooth (dripping sarcasm), but that's why we get here early. Eating, reading, doing homework (wow) and last minute device checking before we board.

Nighty night

The team is tucked in and ready to hit the clouds tomorrow. Atlanta and then Guatemala City. The last "long" night of sleep awaits.

Final meeting
